Lefkas IslandAfter nearly two months of ‘getting ready’ we are off, up the Lefkas canal and out into the Lakka, Paxosopen Ionian Sea for the first of many legs to Auxonne in France.

This shortish hop of 40 nautical miles will end in lakka Bay in the North east corner of Paxos.

We left reasonably early to give us less time bashing to windward when the north west sea breeze sets in around midday.

lakka BayIMG_1404We arrive in Lakka around 2pm anchored and after taking little Ellie out for a toilette visit we both went for a swim in the clear warm water of the bay.

Lakka is the second largest village in size on the
northern end of Paxos and is flanked by silver green olive groves and cypress trees. The picturesque fishing village is located on a natural, almost circular harbour created by two headlands sheltering the bay from the open sea.

Lakka is a popular tourist destination for yachting, windsurfing, snorkeling and swimming. The two main beaches within the Lakka bay, white pebbled Kanoni and sandy Harami lead to a very clear turquoise sea.

TaveranIn the evening a trip ashore to the local taverna for  cold beer and ouzo plus an excellent meal for two and a little dog.
